TECHNICAL GUIDE - Net Play


Net Drops :

The net drop is executed preferably with the shuttle contact point above the net line.

  • Forehand Push or Tap ( Frame N-1 below )
    •  Racquet foot pointing in the direction of the lunge
    •  Racquet arm is at shoulder height
    •  Non-racquet arm is extended behind for counter-balance
    •  V-grip is used with pronation
    •  Knees bent
    •  Weight of the body is on the upper thigh of the racquet foot
    •  Racquet face is in front of the body

  • Backhand Push or Tap ( Frame N-2 below ) 
    •  Backhand grip
    •  Racquet face up above the net line

  • Backhand Drop ( Frame N-3 & N-5 below)
    •  Backhand grip
    •  Reasonable arm extension (contact point is not too close to the body)
    •  Some lunging in the leg prior to shuttle contact

  • Forehand Underhand Drop ( Frame N-4 below )
    •  V grip
    •  Net contact is almost at net level
    •  Arm extension is fairly in front of the lunge

Net Kills :

Frames K-1 and K-2 :

The Net Kill is essentially an instaneous drive shot at the net with a good angular attacking pre-disposition. Frame K-2 emphasizes the V grip with noticeable wrist pronation.
